Michigan Chapter
The first meeting of NANFA's Michigan Chapter took place at the Hudson Mills Metro Park on May 20. Regional rep Leo Long reports that five members and their guests (11-12 in all) attended. A small feeder creek yielded longnose dace, fathead minnow, and creek chub, but the main river, where darters had been seined earlier in the spring in ankle-deep water, was now too high and strong to pull a seine. The group also explored a pool near some small rapids. Here they found rosyface shiner, spotfin shiner, blackstripe topminnow, and "the catch of the day" brook silverside, which no one in the group had seen before (except in pictures). At another spot under a bridge, where the water was slower and therefore easier to seine, the group found rainbow and greenside darter and northern hog sucker.
"All in all, it was a successful first meeting," Leo said, "and everyone had a good time."
