NANFA News Members, Events, Accomplshments and Administrivia

Members provided presentations and field trips to two public schools, the Spring Creek Coalition, one university (NSU) and our state Smallmouth Bass Rendezvous Club.  Members also assisted with three stream clean up days hosted by Trout Unlimited and the Spring Creek Coalition.  We also assisted with an “Underwater Oklahoma” booth at the Oklahoma Wildlife Expo, attended by approximately 35,000 visitors, many which were school age children.  The booth included photos and video of native species, and crayfish, turtle and hellgrammite touch tanks.  Seminars highlighting native fish diversity were given with approximately 40 people in attendance.  Native fish collections were made and donated to the Jenks Public Aquarium in Tulsa and several school aquariums.

NANFA also assisted with the Oklahoma Water Resource Board, the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation and Oklahoma State University with fish collections and ongoing research projects.  We are also assisting the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation with an online field guide to fishes of Oklahoma, with pictures, descriptions and range maps provided not only by our Oklahoma NANFA members, but also Ohio’s Nate Tessler.
