Besides setting up a few tanks of natives from around the state, we decided
to setup a stream tank using a 40 gallon tank. We then collected fish from
the small creek running through Garfield Park. The creek actually has saigns
posted saying not to get into the water because of raw sewage could be in it.
With all of that we actually collected Rinbow Darters, Blacknose Dace, and
Spotfin shiners. This is actually close to downtown Indianapolis. Some of the
neighbors of the area were surprised that there was anything in the creek.

ive been pleased in the diversity that many of chattanooga's urban streams
still produce. certainly not what 500 years ago would have... but still pretty
neat for a stream within the city limits. we do have one creek, chattanooga
creek, that is on the superfund list that is being expensively cleaned but
still shows massive amounts of toxins. this creek is has not been sampled by me
nor is it inviting.
raw sewage bothers me for the disease factor but toxins and siltation and
devegatation are real killers.
i often take visitors that only have a few hours to play to a stream just
down the road from me. i think we have collected probably 2 dozen species from
there.
good luck on your projects!
