Actually, I don't agree with Bruce that ms222 is the "best." ms222 is
rather expensive (about a $ a gram I think). I bought my ~50ml bottle of
clove oil in 1997 for about $15 and it is still going and has probably
killed 30-40,000 fishes. It works fast and fish do recover very well from
it (if you want to just knock them out). It works best if you have some
ethanol (I guess isopropanol would work too) to dissolve it in first
before adding it to water. I add about 1-2 drops to a liter and that
seems to kill fish pretty good for me.
