If I may suggest ... try covering the Cut/
broken end of the rhizome with dusting sulphur (very acid) and the
exposing _only_ that to the air for about 10 min or until the cut end is
dry ... keep the leaves and roots submerged, then plant it trying NOT to
rub off the dusting sulphur. It seals the cut end effectively and helps
the plant resist rotting. This works on all plants with large branches,
rhizomes etc.
both aquatic and terrestrial as well.
