Earthworms may have parasites, but it has been my experience that sunfish,
darters, catfish & minnows that I keep thrive on the live food diet that I
try to maintain year 'round. Nearly 90% of my fishes' winter diet consists
of chopped earthworms and although I'd better to knock on wood, they have
prospered for the past 6-7 years that I've done this. In my experience,
earthworms are the single best fish food I have found, most especially with
sunfish, catfish and crayfish.
