I stopped at some new and old sites today. At shadow lake I caught several
least darters, they are spawning now. I also caught some banded killifish,
central mudminnows and blackchin shiners. On hook and line I caught
bluegills, largemouth bass, and greensunfish, but no warmouth which I was
after.
I then went to a new spot. A small lake. I decided just to fish with a
pole, since it appeared higher than normal and was sandy out over 7 feet
from shore before any weeds were available to work the net in. I caught the
same old boring bluegills and largemouth bass. I also caught northern
longear. This fish is much different than the central longear ( which may
be 5 different species). It is also listed threatened in Wisconsin. Funny
thing is, most places I go ( its range makes a zig zag through the state, up
the east coast, across the middle, and up the west side from the center) in
its reported range, I can find it in good numbers. Such a pretty fish off
limits.
