Hi John,
Several people in the aquarium clubs around here have tried it and I have
heard mixed reviews so the jury is still out in my opinion. (if that counts
for anything) I did however see a barley straw bale being demonstrated at my
local garden center. And it looked pretty good all covered with green hair
algae.
