I would like to recommend a book I've just started to
read that is related to Bill Allen's question and Jan
Hoover's answer about the Robert Henger poem and book,
please accept my apologies if it has been discussed
previously on this list. The title is "Life at a Small
Scale, the Behavior of Microbes" by David B.
Dusenbery, Scientific American Library 1996. Not a
treatise, but more than a "pretty pictures" book about
microscopic life, some of which is found in our
aquariums. It is written to the high standards
expected from SA and it does have lots of terrific
pics;), but the emphasis of the book is on microbe
_behavior_ .

While I have your attention, can anyone suggest a
source for a second hand, student grade microscope?
This book has whetted my appetite!

Claude
