Bob, most reefkeepers run their skimmers 24/7 but in a reef tank the skimmer
is the primary way of getting rid of protein before it becomes ammonia. If
you do a 10 to 25 percent water change once a month trace elements shouldn't
be a problem, if they are you can add them.
