I know this is probably totally off, but it sure looks like a redbreast
sunfish when they are young. However, I lot of hybrids will look like other
species of sunfish. I have caught hybrids that look more like shellcrackers,
and spotted sunfish, that what the parents were most likely. The areas these
odd hybrids turn up are full of hybrids, so I guess these wierd ones are
hybrids spawning with a fish other than the parent specie.
