I was under the impression that Java Ferns were just tough eating
and hence, not eaten. Your Apple Snails may just be hungry enough
to munch on the ferns.

I am interested in reading about chemical deterrents (if you have
a reliable, scientific reference). It's a subject that I have an
interest in.
