Jeremy,
Actually I was just saying that in general emergent plants will produce
roots that extend down into the water and produce fine ahir-like roots.
Actually now that I think about I'll bet many plants including regular
grass if held up above the water and then were allowed to grow down into
the water would grow O.K. for a while if the water has sufficient
aeration isn't that what hydroponics does? I've seen Spathiphyllum
growing with its roots extending down into the water in an exhibit at
the Boston Aquarium and that is a common house plant!
