You have never been stung until a saltwater, hard-head catfish has had the
dubious pleasure of implanting it's barbed spine and accompanying poison

catfishes sting!

One who has been there and done that!

Amen to that! Once while young, insensitive, and foolish (i.e. in college),
several friends and I were night fishing with bait for snapper & grouper off
of one of the FL keys bridges. We kept catching and throwing back saltwater
catfishes (along with the bait they swallowed). Finally, low on bait, and
high on frustration, I threw one on the road and stomped it.

I learned that you should not do this while wearing tennis shoes! While my
friends rolled on the ground with laughter (2 AM, buzzed on Budweiser), I
hopped all over Rt. 1 with a *&#X% catfish sticking out of the bottom of my
shoe. The next day my foot swelled up to the size of a grapefruit.

I've been spiked by many species of catfish, but NONE of them had a venom
like that. Watch out for them suckers!
