NANFA-- "Hey, let's release some fish!"

We all know the various reasons why exotic fishes get introduced into native
water bodies. But this one really takes the cake:

Last night I went to the library and got a copy of the 1984 paper, "Distribution
and known impacts of exotic fishes in Mexico." It mentions the story of the
Municipal Aquarium in Monterrey, Mexico, which, as a publicity stunt for its
1967 opening, invited kids to release aquarium fishes into the local river. A
complete list of all species released is not known, but two were later
collected: rosy barb and cherry barb.

To paraphrase Jerry Seinfeld, "Who's the PR genius who came up with *this*
idea?"
