The Harpersfield longear is the northern longear, Lepomis peltastes , L.
megalotis peltastes. Or as some must keep insisting, it is just another
megalotis. The "northern" monicker attached to this fish is also a irritant
to me. Although more of a mouthful, Great Lakes Longear would be more
descriptive, since this forms range surrounds the Great Lakes, sometimes
just going out of the watersheds into others, especially in the western
Great Lakes. Its range ventures into Canada on the east and west ends of the
lakes.
