I found that the sediment of almost all the local lakes around
here(southwest MI) is composed of marl. I have not heard this term a lot, nor
have I been able to find information on what it is made of. I know its made
partly of shells, but what kind, and how did they get there? Interestingly
enough, you can see tiny crushed shells upon close inspection. It reminds me
of large-grained, flaky sand. Anyways, I would appreciate any information on
"Marl" . Thank you! __Dan
