Actually there are only two species of Ceratophyllum recorded.
C. demersum and C. submersum. First at all you can seperate this genus from ex. Myriophyllum by the total
lack of roots at Ceratophyllum. If it has roots at all, even small ones, its not a Ceratophyllum.

They rarely flowers, and then only with very small flowers, the nut is 4-5 mm. Propagation happens mostly
during the winter with hibernakls (spelling?), which meens that every stemtip hibernates and what betwin the stemtips dies.
Every stemtip will then become a "new" plants in the spring.

C. demersum has dark green shots and its has more stiff and fragile stem and leaves than C. submersum.
Submersum is light green, sometimes reddish leaves, depending on the light.

Martin - Denmark.
