On a serious note, one of the reasons science is neglected in the earlier
(elementary) years is that as a general rule, elementary teachers have more
of a liberal arts background and prefer such activities. In the upper
grades, anyone with a science background can usually make more money doing
science. BUT, they don't get June/July/August off to go collecting, do they?
