An old name found in a Field & Steam magazine article zillion years ago was
Rio Grande perch. The article was on fishing for them as pan fish.

I don't know if that name is/was commonly used or if someone thought that
they tasted better as perch. ;)

As I recall, the author did note that they were the northernmost cichlids in
the western hemisphere.
