For a stream ecology class field trip, we went down to White River
(MO) and floated it for the weekend. Every so often, we pulled over
and busted out the seine. It was fun. If you pack light (unlike a
few people in the class), you can fit in one canoe: a seine, a couple
of buckets, and everything else you need for a weekend of camping.
If you do it, let me know. It would be a great excuse to make a road
trip.
