I liked the personal canoe this place has:

anybody have one these? >>

I am biased and prejudiced but open minded. I much prefer a kayak (open deck)
to a canoe. I have 4 kayaks and one canoe (which I built in 1965 before I
knew better). A kayak is inherently more stable (center of gravity is below
the center of buoyancy), easier to paddle and lighter to carry than a canoe.
My further preference is for a "soft-sided" kayak like Folbot at
http://www.folbot.com/Aleut.htm but I also have one (of 4) rigid plastic
kayak.
