from Kyle Piller:

Hello All:

I am finally getting around to getting the word out about darterfest.
First, the good news "DARTERFEST 2003" is a go and will be held during the
week of July 20-24 in conjunction with PERCIS III in Madison, WI. Many of
you have already agreed to participate so get your abstracts submitted by
MARCH 15
(http://www.seagrant.wisc.edu/Outreach/aquaculture/aqua_percis.asp). I
encourage others who are willing to participate to please submit an
abstract. Any study focusing on darter ecology, evolution, conservation
biology, or life-history would be appropriate
(http://www.seagrant.wisc.edu/Outreach/aquaculture/aqua_percis_darters.asp).
Please drop me an email when you submit your abstract so that I know who has
submitted abstracts.

Now for the bad news. Registration costs for the meeting are fairly steep.
I am in the process of trying to secure external funds to reduce
registration costs for symposium presenters. As you will see on the meeting
website, one can register for either a one day or entire meeting rate. As
a result, I am tentatively planning on having the darter symposium on a
single day (Wed. July 23) so that those of you with minimal institutional
support can register at the one-day rate.

Previous DARTERFESTS have centered around copious amounts of barley and
hops. As a result, I am in the process of setting up a social for the
evening after the darter symposium so that we may continue this grand
tradition. If anyone is interested in collecting in the area please let me
know. I can assist with locality information, permits, etc. In the near
future, more information will be made available regarding hotels and
lodging.

Please feel free to distribute this information to other interested
researchers.

Looking forward to seeing all of you in Madison this summer.

Cheers,
