"Fishes of Arkansas" is a quality state book from what I' ve read in it. For
freshwater mussels, the single best book seems to be the "The Freshwater
Mussels of Tennessee" by Parmalee and Bogan. Many of the species's ranges
cover Arkansas... and an equivalent book for Alabama should be out in the
next year or two.
