I agree, Ed, Linux and OS-X are not susceptible to viruses and trojans.
One minor correction, they can co-exist with Windows but do not run on
Windows (as far as I know). They are more like replacement (or
alternative) for Microsoft Windows environment.
My email system is mostly immune to viruses and trojans but can get hit by
by a rare worm (only a couple in it's 8-9 year history).
It runs Linux. :)
and it didn't cost me a dime.
