I'm going to have to take exception Rob :)

I only believe that the kids may be won for a moment. I've seen too many small victories on the battlefield that is my own generation (or older) to give up any hope. It's the same "holy <explative>" that I saw today when I posted to my yuppie geek friends a picture that Dave Neely said *existed* out there about what was clear cut at the turn of the last century:

http://www.farmertodd.com/images/tree_picture.jpg

There's your white oak Dave (And gracias :). It was 13' at 16' feet up from the base (and wasn't just a freak of nature... there were many more.. this was just the one who happened to have a camera near by).

Are anyone's living room close to *those* dimensions? :)

For the rest of that story, please turn to: http://www.patc.net/history/archive/virg_fst.html

It's the same reason I was just on a chat line explaining to a person out in California that I'd actually met (in person oh the horrors the horrors :) and has heard me out on how devistating I feel reef importation is. And he coincidentally just said about my native gardens "Well, you're lucky you have *pretty* native plants around you" and I was forced to explain that he's in the midst of the California Floristic Province which many ecologists (Wilson was the one to bring it to my attention) have pointed out as one of the world hotspots of biodiversity. Little would my friend know it in LA.

The children will never know if the parents DON'T know.

So let's hit up the kids.... AND their folks, k'? :)

Todd

Just want to throw in a nickles worth. I agree that in any product from
Salmon to tools, cheaper is NOT always better. The question of the future
should be directed back to consumers.... "At WHAT COST do you want to
save??" Should we trash the environment so we can save that dime on a
shower curtain at "Sprawl_Mart" ??? Americans in general have very short
term buying habits and too often walk over dollars to pick up pennies...
That dime saved today, came at the cost of so much in the long run. I am
convinced that educating the kids now about how the Earth works, could
possibly prevent many arguments in the future about environmental worth and
such....

they drained a well know wetland (among local biolgists) for and see how far
you get. Very sad... but true.
