NANFA-- Sealing aquarium

I have an old metal frame aquarium, it is at least 50 years old. It is made
of thick angle metal, maybe stainless but the surface isn't anything like the
shiny stainless frames tanks used to have. I removed the thick tar like stuff
they used to seal up the aquarium and put in new glass with silicone rubber. I
also replaced the heavy slate bottom with glass since silicone won't stick to
slate very well. I have used four or five of those large tubes of silicone
that uses a gun to dispense the silicone. I filled it up yesterday and not for
the first time it still leaks! Just a tiny seepage but I can't seem to stop the
leak completely. Is there anything I can add to the water that might stop up
the seepage?
