If you can acquire one the old style 'light strips' that use two
incandescent bulbs can also take 2 20-watt screw in compact florescent bulbs
this is the common 'money saving' type of lamp from Wal-Mart or other
retailer. Nothing special, just lots of light. These work GREAT and are
cheap. You can get the light strip for something like $15.

I use Seachem Fluorite as a substrate and am very happy with it. You should
only need a bag or two for a 10. I suggest checking out www.thekrib.com for
suggestions on growing plants.

Hey Kevin, while you are investigating care for those plants and have them
in a holding/ quarrantine tank you might consider a bath to rid them of
snails, leaches and maybe undesirable disease causing wee beasties. This may
be old news to you. If not .... :)

I have heard of giving them potassium permanganate baths. A websearch or
visit to The Krib would probably yield what you would need to know. I am
more familiar with an alum soak.

Alum doesn't dissolve real easily, so you will want to take the desired
amount and dissolve it in a small jar of hot water which you can stir or
shake. Then you add it to near room temperature water so you don't scorch
the plants.

Either a level teaspoon per a gallon of water and soaking the plants for 40
minutes or, if you are in a hurry, a dissolved tablespoon in a gallon of
water for 20 minutes seems to work. Rinse (and even soak) the plants
completely several times afterwards.

All the best!

Scott
