I have a tank in the living room with a grass pickerell, two Enneacanthus
obesus, an alligator gar, a bala shark, and two Asian bumblebee cats. I
fed them freeze dried brineshrimp and bloodworms and Tetra cichlid sticks
last night. I noticed some splashing and sat a watched for a while. The
cichlids sticks were drifting at the surface in the current from the
powerhead. The obesus were picking them off one by one. I noticed the
pickerell seemed to be alert to the activity and scent of food. Then I saw
him hit a cichlid stick. He seemed to chew it up and let most of the
particles come out his mouth and gill slits. The sticks soften rapidly in
water. He repeated this behavior with several other sticks. Don't know if
he's getting any nutrition, but at least he's learning to take dry food!
