Yep...Pteronotropis welaka is listed as "a species of special concern" and
is therefore illegal to collect. As Dustin mentioned before, P.
hypselopterus (sailfin shiner) as well as P.signipinnis (flagfin shiner) are
both quite attractive in their own right. The flagfin will most likely only
be found in the panhandle while the sailfin has a wider range. What part of
Florida are you traveling too?
