Green water is actually euglena, and not algae. Try using aged water. The
things they put in tap water in citys is meant to kill the same type of
critters that euglenas are, so maybe that is why your water died out? I
keep enough going great in a shoe box set on a window sill. Even the one in
the east window that never gets direct sunlight ( trees block this from
happening in the morning) is thick green after just a couple weeks of
setting it up with a a couple drops from my original culture in the south
window that is infested with daphnia and other desirable things.
