It may, but what I have been told that when the first farmers settled that
area in Portage county, it was a large area of heavy black soil that looked
awesome for farming. Problems with this soil ( probably acid or high water
tables) made it hard to farm. So from all the abandoned farms , or dead
crops, or even dead trees from intermitent super floods and prairie fires,
it got the name Boney Veiw, or veiw of bones. It is in reference to the sad
scenes these all were.
