I did the same, every year I put out my bettas, gouramies, angels etc. There
were some platies and swordtails that overwintered in the biggest pond, I
think that selective adaptation created some beasties that could survive
down to 5C in the Kanto Plain. I also kept some medaka and WCMM's in the
pond as well. Did very well until I lost the farm.
