Well, it has no signs of fin damage ray, right now it is close
to 7 inches long. I also have in the same tank an obvious p. senegalus
the differences are the spots, and the pectoral fin of the unknown seems to
have a lot less white color and thickness. And the rounded fin is very round
in
comparison to the senegalus. Anyone know P. senegalus meridionalis?
Thats complet bullshit if they want to ban polypterus with snakeheads, they
are
very different in behavior, ive had both, and the polypterus is very docile in
comparison. thanks Ray

This is another problem, nine times out of ten the polypterus sold as P.
palmas is actually senegulus. Senegulus often have spots on the back when
young, these usually fade away when they get large (near a foot long). Is it
possible this fish had its fin bit off when smaller and it grew back like
this? Palmas also have pointed tails. There are some larger species with
rounded tails, but they are much differnet in other ways, head and mouth
shape and coloration.
Polypterus are awesome animals, and rumor has it they will be lumped in the
ban on snakeheads, along with pike cichlids.
