NANFA-- fish or cut bait, wierd bait

I have never used cicadas for bait. They were too neat and pretty sounding.
Their grubs though, those things look like monsters from Sci Fi movies. Used
to dig them up as a kid playing with my trucks in the dirt. Find their
shells on the bases of big Jack Pines.

I have used some strange baits. One that probably sounds the oddest is the
berries of Deadly Night shade- Solanum dulcamara. These berries have a
meaty smelling juice in them. They are related to tomatoes, but poisonous to
humans. Pretty plants with purple and yellow flowers. As far as bugs, just
catching grasshoppers along the shore and using them, crickets too. Nothing
out of the ordinary. Oh yeah, the occassional deer or horse fly that thought
it could suck my blood has ended up on my hook.
