An Oarfish was recently captured by an angler in shallow water off Cleveland
(NE UK, not Ohio!), on a squid bait. It was her first ever trip out fishing
on a boat, and she goes and pulls in one of those things!
The fact that it was taken on a bait suggests that in spite of being in very
shallow water for the species, it was not in a moribund state as in the way
these things are usually seen.
I think it weighed about 40 kg, I can check if anyone actually cares enough.
