The Michigan Chapter was asked to put on a native fish display at
Outdoorarama a large hunting and fishing show. Leo Long and I set-up a
display with fish photos and illustrations and had a 15-gallon aquarium with
natives. The tank had rainbow, fantail, greenside darters, blacknose dace,
creek chubs, fathead minnows and a hog sucker. We attracted hundreds of
people during the four days of the show. Most walked away thanking us for
introducing them to fish they didn't know existed. Several people made our
day as they recognized darters, nice to know some people know they exist.
The only low moment was a group that wanted to know if walleyes ate round
gobies and if they did why would we want to get rid of them. I tried to
tell them but as they say the light were out and no one was home. All in
all a positive experience and now the Michigan Chapter has a traveling
display.
