Clams and mussels do seem to do better in sand than gravel. I find some here
attached to plants. The little Asian ones have invaded a local power plant
cooling lake. They are round but there are a couple of small elongated ones here
too. One of the elongated mussels is found in the plants above the muddy
substrate in creeks. I wish I could play around with some of the Zebra mussels
(don't freak, I'm just dreaming) to see if they would live in a tank. I bet they
would make great filters.
