Lots of people fish (hook and line) for shovelnose sturgeon here in
Nebraska. I understand that most people smoke them. I'm not sure how long
they will allow shovelnose to be harvested because of the potential for the
general populace to mistake a pallid for a shovelnose. Several of my
friends/colleagues are involved in sturgeon research on the Platte and
Missouri Rivers - and last year a local ate one of their radio-tagged fish.
I guess it was a rather expensive "lunch" for him.
