Some inexpensive but always useful items:
- stainless steel (rustproof)pocketknife
- field thermometer (in screwtop aluminum tube)
- heavy twine and/or pipe cleaners (for seine repairs)
- waterproof flashlight
- small notebooks that are waterproof (e.g., Rite-In-Rain) or water
resistant (e.g.,Teledyne)
- battery-powered aerators

More expensive but very helpful:
- canvas field bag (for field guides, thermometer, etc.)
- waterproof personal-size field case (e.g., Pelican)
- GPS hand held unit

<< I've not seen a list of standard collecting gear for native-fish
aficionados -- a topic of personal interest as my wife is asking me for a
list of possible presents. I've seen mention of seines and nets -- any
specifics? What about waders and other personal gear?
