Hi Travis,

The line stands somewhere behind a wall of ignorance that has every possible ability to learn and understand where they should draw their lines. I used to be pro-pro-pro medicine, but as docs are finding themselves factory workers in their fields with the control of the corporate medicine influences coming into full fruition... They almost don't even care what they're sending off, as long as it fills their quota sheets to keep Pfizer and Upjohn on good terms with the administration of their organization. Of course, I'm only speaking of the current American experience that I have and know.

I drew my line after I'd experienced a horrible run of peridontitis (your saliva gland gets infected) and because the tissue was so deep, we went on this battery of antibiotics to save the day. For a month. No results, except in the gastrointestinal tract, of course... They brought me in to get an MRI. I had a horrible reaction to the Iodine they gave me and it made me drool profusely. It cleared out the gland. Whatever works right? Well then I had a bit of it firing back up again... I was absolutely not going to go the antibiotic route until my whole face was oozing and making people shriek. So... I found a chewable vitamin c pill and sucked on it right in that area. Sheesh. If only I'd known it was that easy from the git go. Any time I have this issue again, I bust out the vitamin c and we're all cleared up in a day and life goes on groaning and moaning about how my bowels are completely trashed and..... well I think that's going to cross a line of "too much inf
ormation". I guess my point is... Stop and evaluate the person telling you what you should take, why they want you to take it, and you've got the internet there... You may find different opinions out there in broad world, but be cautioned to be twice as skeptical of something on the web as you would be normally (you know, kinda like right now ;)

So what the morale of this little anecdote? If you feel sick and your chest is tightening up... Take some gueifenisin or codene with lots of water and *REST*. Allow the mucous to purge out without causing anaerobic nastines to develop and then get the fever and the whole shebang going. And then, you're way less likely to need a heavy hitter, and the critter in question doesn't have much but a normal life that you'll be ready for the next time it shows up :)

I could rant on this for hours.... But I'd be best servered now with a pillow and blanket and the nice warmer half of the bed whos been waiting for me for a bit :)

Night all...

Does anybody else have "bad feelings" about using antibiotics?

Granted, I hate to see innocent life perish as a result of what was
probably my error, but in my case, I don't think I've ever seen a
successful recovery from disease in a specimen (after treatment, that
is), and the world has antibiotic resistance problems to deal with
because of excessive use of antibiotics on human patients alone ("My toe
hurts, doc - can I have a prescription?")

This isn't meant to push my opinions in any way. I'm just curious to
know what other people think.

For discussion on this topic from the perspective of a vet, I know there
was a letter published in FAMA not too far back, essentially accusing
Julian Sprung of using antibiotics as preventative medicine, if I
remember right. And the vet thought that was a definite bad thing.

So where do we draw the line?
