The choice of bulb is almost irrelevant for the growth of the plant provided
that there is enough light. The "color" is actually for your viewing
pleasure. Make sure you have sufficient wattage to support your plants.
Usually 2-4 watts per gallon is what most recommend. I am currently using
the sylvania octron XP/ECO F32/850/XP/ECO on my 55 gal and I am satisfied
with that. It also has a high CRI index (85 - 90 I think) which also makes
it look nice. I had to special order these and they were <$10 a piece.
These are T-8s with an electronic balast.

I have a project going with some halogen lamps. Above a ten gallon tank I
have place three little 20w halogen highlight lamps. I got them for 19.95
at Home Depot. It looks great!
and the plants seem to like it as well.
