my experience w/ golden shiners is limited but i have several in the cement
pond. they are about 6" now and will grow up to about a foot. there are several
in the tn aquarium which are the biggest dang minner ive ever seen! :) nice
finage too.
ive caught several in the drying ditche pools of the florida panhandle and
yet also in cold water springs there. a pretty diverse habitat survivor.
probably introduced as via bait bucket. the fins of each were almost bood red...
which is odd in that i have not seen note of that in any books ive consulted.
they are generally herbivorous... how do you spell that... and graze on algae
from my snorkling observations. ray w told me they would eat any eggs that
are in vegatation. very flighty... they stay in tight schools and are hard to
approach.
if they get much bigger than a 12" i may be able to tell you what they taste
like...
a bit mucky bony i would guess :)
