Attention Ohio NANFA, this Saturday from 10am to 7pm will be held the second
annual Mahoning Riverfestheld in Packard Park in Warren, Ohio. The overall
purpose of this event is to generate a better stewardship of this recovering
river, and to educate the public as to the tasks that need to be done in
order to formulate a better care of the river among all who share the banks.
People are really re-discovering this almost lost natural treasure. This
event has taken off in only it's second year, and is now seeing people from
all over jumping on the bandwagon for a cleaner river that will result in an
enhanced quality of life and local economy. I, like many others have been
volunteering relentlessly in the final waining days 'til the event!
The Mahoning Riverfest will feature free canoe rides, nature hikes, display
areas from various groups such as ODNR, The Mahoning River Consortium, The
Ohio Sierra Club, Audobon Society, Ohio EPA, Soil and Water Conservation,
and of course.... NANFA... Also featured will be jazz bands for your
entertainment, and a local original.... Mahoning River Fest Ale, made by a
local brewmaster! This is just some of what can be expected. Don't forget to
visit the NANFA booth and see "The Water Shed" Many historical tours and
walks will also be a main feature, as well as story telling and face
painting for the kids!!!!
All of the above is FREE to the public, and I extend a personal invitation
to all NANFA members within reach of this unique festival of which will
generate little waste as well! I almost forgot!!! The FIRST NATIVE FISH
AND RIPARIAN ZONE INTERPRETIVE SIGNAGE TRAIL DISPLAY will be unveiled!!!
The news media will also be there as well as a local radio station! This was
a pain in the butt planning... But it will now become a reality, and in
part, thanks will be extended to NANFA!!!
If any one has any questions about Saturday, call me at 330-847-1714!!! I
hope to meet you there ... Saturday "Morning on the Mahoning!!!"... Thanks,
Robert S. Carillio, Ohio NANFA
