When I was collecting in Peru most of the fish were identified as LSF (little
silvery fish). The locals would stop what they were doing to watch the
foreigners jumping in the swamps and rivers. I ask if the thought we were
crazy. I was told that they or family members had all made money collecting.
They new that the fish had value. What made us different was he came to
collect our own. In this way the river people of Peru probably value their
native fish more then North Americans.
