hey mark...
they are quuuiiicccckkkk indeed.
i was observing several riffle minnows of various sizes in a shallow run
below a good riffle. they were feeding along the bottom w/ hog suckers,
alabama shiners and bronze darters. i spent about 15 minutes being patient
creating a little cleared pit and trying to lower the net... but that did not
work for the wary riffle minnow. i found that as i chased the one i wanted
upstream he would turn around at the head of the run, just below the riffle.
i did this twice. the 3rd time when he made the flip around reverse i made a
quick ( and lucky :) swish of the 5" handnet. bruce, steve and i had tried
several runs w/ a siene to no avail. i am the king of swish.
