Captive Care Notes: Flathead Chub (Platygobio, Family Cyprinidae)

Since Flathead Chub (Platygobio gracilis) rarely occur in standing water, a strong filter outflow and submerged powerheads are probably necessary in order to make this minnow feel at home in the aquarium. The southern subspecies (P. g. gulonellus), since it's smaller and lives in creeks, is probably the easiest to collect and maintain. The book American Aquarium Fishes implies that captive spawning has been successful -- "in captivity, eggs are broadcast in vegetation or sunken yarn mops" -- but this is merely conjecture based on the species' close relationship to Hybopsis; the qualifier "probably" was deleted from the text.
