I always wanted to build a big doughnut-shaped pool with a gazebo in the
middle, and stairs going down from the gazebo into the underwater
observatory surrounded by the moat. I'd set up some little pumps here &
there to give the water a slight directional current, thusly imitating a
stream

I did that once on a small scale. the tank was twelve feet across and four
and half feet deep, made of fiberglass. I built a glassed in room four feet by
four feet in the center with walkway leading to the room in the center. I
could climb down into the room and watch the fish swim around me. The tank was
sunk into the ground and inside a greenhouse. I had it set up for about two
years then a freak snow storm crushed my greenhouse and eventually my wife made
me cut up the tank and bury it. It was pretty cool, I had a difficult time
keeping the room sealed around the bottom due to the fiberglass tank deforming
when full.
