Hello all - this is my first contribution to the list.

Are any of you familiar with the larger freshwater prawns (Macrobrachium spp.) of the southern states of the Gulf Coastal Plain? I am particularly interested in M. carcinus (the bigclaw or painted river prawn), the largest freshwater invertebrate of North America (males to over 600 mm total length).

Images may be accessed-in-http://www.crusta10.de/templates/index.php?sideid=galerie&showthumb=243&lang_id=1&showid=36, http://ti.racoon.free.fr/picture.php?cat=52&image_id=1527&expand=all, http://www.wirbellose.de/arten.cgi?action=show&artNo=138, and http://www.wirbellose.de/arten.cgi?action=show&artNo=084. Note the broad range of coloration.

Thanks for your consideration.
