It was going back a few years, but I suspect they were black crappie (although I have to admit, I never really thought much about distinguishing one species from another.)

In my experience white crappie seem to adapt and eat anything, but black
crappie seem to only eat live fish. The black crappies I had would not even
eat live crayfish, and I have never seen any other fish reject crayfish as
long as it was not to big for them. Which kind did you you all keep white or
black?
